FAQ
1) Are there fish in the Kenai Lake?
~ Yes, we have Rainbow, Lake Trout, Dolly Varden and Salmon. Please check the Alaska Game and Fish website for licenses, rules, regulations and requirements as some fish are highly regulated (Salmon).
2) Does The Retreat rent fishing equipment? Do you recommend guides?
~ No, you will need to bring your own or check with local businesses in Seward for renting options. Guides for salt water and fresh water fishing can be found in Seward, Moose Pass and Cooper Landing via the different Chamber of Commerce web sites.
3) What is the weather like during my stay dates?
~ I have added a current weather tab that gives you up to date pin point weather forecasts for The Retreat. Please be mindful that if you are going out into the ocean you will want to check out the Marine Forecast.
4) Are the Cabins fully furnished? What do I need to bring?
~ Yes, they come fully stocked with all your linens, bedding, towels, pots, pans, dishes, glasses, cups, utensils, etc. You bring your clothes, food and toiletries.
5) Is there WiFi?
~ Yes, WiFi is provided in the common areas such as the Lodge and R.V. Park. It is not provided in the cabins. We are a partially unplugged Retreat. We do not have adequate cell service, t.v.'s, radios, or WiFi in our cabins. It is time to unplug, relax and enjoy the company of your family and friends!
6) How do I obtain the 20% discount for The Kenai Fjords Tours?
~ Once you have completed your reservation to stay at The Retreat, look over the website alaskacollection.com and choose an option that will be best suited for you and your family or friends. Once you have determined your tour, call your host Gary at 907-288-5059 to receive your 20% discount and we do the reservation over the phone.
7) When does the train pass through the property?
~ The Alaskan Railroad Passenger Train passes through the property twice daily. From Anchorage to Seward at 10:15am and from Seward to Anchorage at 6:45pm. We will occasionally have a freight train or repositioning train pass through at non scheduled times.
8) What time is check-in/check-out?
~ Check-in is from 3:00pm - 9:00pm (If you are arriving after 9:00pm, please make arrangements with me). If you arrive early you are welcome to check-in if your lodging choice is available.
~ Check-out is by 11:00am.
9) Does The Retreat experience bug challenges (mosquitoes)?
~ We are extremely fortunate to be lacking in the bug challenges that plague some other parts of Alaska. Yes, we do on occasion have some mosquitoes but nothing to be concerned with.
10) What wildlife will I most likely see?
~ We have seen the following on the property at The Retreat or on the mountains surrounding The Retreat: Mountain Goats, Brown Bear (Grizzly), Black Bear, Moose, Canadian Lynx, Wolf, Coyotes, Ermine, Pine Marten, Rabbits, Squirrels, Porcupines, River Otters, Eagles, Loons, Ducks, Grouse, Ptarmigan and a variety of smaller birds. Of course if you take a Kenai Fjords Tour you can add the possibility of Gray Whales, Orca Whales, Humpback Whales, Fin Whales, Sea Lions, Otters, Seals and Porpoises along with a variety of birds to include Puffins.
11) What hiking trails are in the area?
~ We have an abundance of hiking trails (see Adventure tab) within 20-30 mins of The Retreat. The first one is located across the Seward Highway from The Retreat - Victor Creek Trail. In addition to that hike, you may want to check out Carter Lake, Crescent Creek, Johnson Pass, Grant Lake, Vagt Lake, Crown Point Mine, Falls Creek, Ptarmigan Lake, Primrose/Lost Lake, Grayling Lake, and Devils Pass.
